We want to thank all of you who attended our annual fundraiser on May 18 for your support of our service programs. A-May-Zing occurred on a magnificent spring evening with sunshine and warm temperatures on the Roche Harbor Resort courtyard for the cocktail hour. It was a huge success with a sold-out crowd of 120 guests.
Inside the Pavilion guests enjoyed a buffet dinner with a cupcake dessert. Our silent and live auctions were a success with extra excitement over trips to Tuscany, Hawaii and Mexico. The Fund-a-Need paddle raises will provide support for Cancer Treatment Transportation, Food Security and Awards and Scholarships. As in all events, we had many successes and some areas where we would like to improve upon next year. We will utilize our post event survey to make our next event even better.
Our valued supporters contributed to an incredible 16% increase in income over 2024! Thank you again for making a difference to women, girls and cancer patients in Friday Harbor. We couldn’t have done it without YOU!

New FY President's Message & Budget
I am the new President of Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor (SIFRI) for the 2025 -2026 fiscal year. As President Elect for the past year, we continued to support the island community through our various service programs, and we are extremely grateful to our generous donors.
As a retired healthcare executive and member of SIFRI, I volunteer to register and distribute ferry tickets to over 300 community members who need to travel to the mainland for cancer treatment. I was also pleased to represent SIFRI and hand out the High School Scholarship awards at graduation in June. In addition, SIFRI supports the Fresh Bucks program at the Farmers Market where families who qualify can receive $40 towards the purchase of fresh produce from local farmers. These are just three of the services that we provide through our generous donors. I wish I could share all the heartfelt appreciation emails we receive but please know that SIFRI is recognized for these service programs that respond to the needs in our community, and we thank you.

SIFRI Service Programs Budget AllocationFiscal Year July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026
| |
The current fiscal year budget continues to keep Scholarships & Awards as our most significant area of focus to advance women and girls through education. Afterall, the name Soroptimist was coined from the Latin word soror meaning sister, and optima meaning best. Thus, Soroptimist is perhaps best interpreted as 'the best for women'. Helping cancer patients with free transportation to the mainland for treatment has been a SIFRI specific focus since 2018 (informally since 2015). The remaining areas of the budget are allocated to community collaborative efforts. Please click on the blue button below for more details. Thank you again for your continued support!

2025 SJI Cares Matching Grant
We are thrilled and honored to have been chosen to participate in the upcoming SJI Cares grant campaign with the goal to raise $5000 for our Cancer Treatment Transportation Fund during the fair days from August 14 thru August 17.
Funds raised will cover increased program costs (based on the last 5-year trend) and allow us to continue to support patients seeking transportation assistance for cancer treatment on the mainland and at PeaceHealth-Friday Harbor from the other San Juan islands at no charge. See SJI Cares button below for details on how to support our campaign during the fair days from August 14 thru August 17. The SJI Community Foundation (SJICF) will match the first $1000 we raise! The SJICF is also awarding $500 per day during the fair to the non-profit organization (NPO) who wins the daily contest.
| |
If you choose to support our campaign, please donate on August 14 to help us win the $500 contest awarded to the non-profit earning the highest total dollar amount donated that day.
